Introduction
Rapid population growth and urbanization has resulted in generation of huge demand for housing. According to State Bank of Pakistan, housing backlog which was 4.3 million in 1998 has surged to 10 million in 2017, significant portion of which is being contributed by Punjab. Furthermore, existing supply of different sizes of houses is not in accordance with the income distribution.
Currently, there is shortage of 36,258 housing units in the district of Chiniot. This shortage is expected to grow up to 49,032 housing units by 2023. So the provision of low cost housing to the lower and middle income group of population is their dire need to be fulfilled.
