Introduction
Transport Department, Government of Punjab, initiated a project to establish permanent weigh stations and identified nine (09) potential sites along provincial highways in consultation with Communication and Works (C&W) Department and District Government as overloading of vehicles is a common problem at national and provincial highways of Pakistan. Overloading of vehicles resulted in premature failure of pavement, excessive maintenance and rehabilitation cost of roads vehicles and poor road safety. Major source of overloaded vehicles is crush quarries, cement factories, sugar, rice & textile mills, oil depots.
